Rules for town reviews
These rules apply to every review, in every language. They fit in a few lines.
- Who can rate: people who live or have lived in the town. No account is needed; without one, the email address is confirmed by a link and is never published.
- Three profiles: resident, traveller or worker (you work or study there without living there). Each rates what they can judge; the page of a town gives a summary per profile and an overall summary.
- What a review holds: a mark from 0 to 10 for each of the nine criteria, then what works well and what does not, with examples from daily life. The marks must match the text.
- What a review does not hold: a link or an address, the name of a person, insults, hateful or defamatory remarks, advertising, text copied from elsewhere, anything unrelated to life in the town.
- Reading: every review is read by someone on the team before it is published. A refused review is not published; its author receives the reason by email and may write another.
- Limits: one review per town and per person, and a few towns at most per person. Reviews written to distort the rating of a town are refused.
- Editing or withdrawing: the author edits or withdraws the review at any time, from their account or with the link received by email. An edited review is read again before it shows.
- Reporting: every published review has a link to report it. The team looks at every report; a review reported by several people is hidden until the decision.
- AI-written overviews: on the page of a town that still has few reviews, a short introduction may be written by an artificial intelligence. It is always labelled as such, is not a resident’s review, carries no mark and counts neither in the averages nor in the rankings. It may contain errors: a link lets you report them. It disappears once the town has enough published reviews.
