Safety tips for dating
Romance scams, first date: the right habits to meet people with confidence.
Spotting scams
- Never send money, gift cards or cryptocurrency to someone you met online, even for an emergency.
- Be wary of someone who quickly wants to leave the site for another messaging app.
- A profile that looks too perfect, declarations of love after a few days or a meeting that keeps being postponed are warning signs.
- Never share your bank details, a copy of an identity document or your passwords.
- Suggest a video call before you travel: a scammer always finds an excuse to refuse.
A safe first date
- Choose a busy public place, never your home or theirs.
- Tell someone close to you: who you are meeting, where and when.
- Get there and back on your own.
- Keep an eye on your drink and your belongings.
- Trust your instinct: you can leave at any time, without explaining yourself.
Our tools to protect you
- Report a profile in a few clicks: our team looks at it and your report stays anonymous.
- Block someone: you will no longer see each other and the conversation is closed.
- The “Identity verified” badge shows that a member had their identity checked; you can choose to see only those profiles.
- Your exact location is never shown: only your city and a rounded distance.
- Before a date, ask the site to remind you to tell a friend: you alone receive this reminder.
- Discreet mode, a profile hidden from specific people, a distance that is not shown: under “Privacy”, you decide who sees you.
In immediate danger, call 112, the European emergency number.
